My Boy Came Home for Christmas

  • Historical Date: December 25, 1940

My boy came home for Christmas,
So tall and straight in his uniform.
My boy came home for Christmas,
In his uniform so proudly worn.

But Christmas Day won’t be the same
For us this year, I know:
Ev’ry moment I’ll be thinking
Of the time he has to go.

I’ll be thinking of the many times
I held him in my arms
When he was just a little tot,
So full of baby charms.

I’ll be remembering the things he did
When he was so very small,
And now he stands before me,
So fine and straight and tall.

And when he goes I’ll breathe the prayer
That I’ve kept in my heart,
“May God keep you and protect you,
And help you do your part!” 1
