Guardsmen To Leave Tuesday
Will Show Films of Camp Tonight for Public
After showing motion pictures of Camp Beauregard, La., at 8 p. m. today at the American Legion club, 875 second street, 46 Muskegon members of the Company G, 126th Infantry, will entrain at 5:45 a. m. Tuesday at the Pere Marquette station to return to the southern camp.
Organization of a social group among wives, sweethearts and friends of the Muskegon guardsmen in training will be discussed this evening. The public is invited to witness the movies, taken by Corporal Arthur Vandermeulen.
First Sergeant John M. Groulx, in charge of the Muskegon soldiers during the journey, said today the train will pick up Grand Haven, Holland and Grand Rapids member en route, arriving at Camp Beauregard Wednesday afternoon.
Mess Sergeant Hugh Hislop, 925 Getty street, and Corporal Marshall Olson, 1412 Randolph street have been confined to bed with illness for much of the eight-day Christmas leave but will be able to return with the guardsmen, Sergeant Groulx said. 1
Already their leave was drawing to a close, and you can’t help but feel bad for those who got to come home but were sick the whole time. Once again, medical care was different then – a week in bed seems crazy today.
I have looked at so many pictures of Camp Beauregard, but I would really love to see the film. Life at Camp Beauregard had started out rough with complaints of cold weather and not enough supplies, and the Army had gone to great lengths to both try and improve things and to show the people back home that the guys were doing great.
