Willard La Vanture was born April 10, 1919 and was mobilized with the National Guard in October of 1940. He trained at Camp Beauregard and Camp Livingston in Louisiana and was sent to Australia and New Guinea. He was part of the group that crossed the Owen Stanley Mountains in Papua New Guinea. He was killed in the Battle of Buna on December 2, 1942. He is buried at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Muskegon, MI
